Random comments
Jay-Z & Kanye:“I don’t even know what that means.” “No one knows what it means, but it’s provocative.”
Surfer Blood: I wouldn’t normally rank a 4-track EP among my top 10, but Surfer Blood is arguably (TVOTR/Black Keys) the best band out there. Seriously. Astro Coast was my top album of 2010, and it wasn’t especially close except for Kanye.
True Widow: minus points for the title
Wild Flag: Did Sleater Kinney ever break up? (see also: the Corin Tucker Band…or Elastica)
Jackson Brownian: Dawes
Nico-esque: Austra
Neko-esque: Lydia Loveless
Lynchian (in descending order): Dirty Beaches, Lana Del Rey, Frankie Rose & the Outs, Dum Dum Girls, Vivian Girls, Crazy Clown Time (mostly “The Night Bell with Lightning”)
Depeche Modian: Puerto Rico Flowers, She Wants Revenge (by way of Joy Division & Interpol)
Duran Duranian: White Lies
Silver Beetles-esque: Bambi Kino

RIP
Cesária Évora
Amy Winehouse
Benny Spellman
